Help build a local broadband TV Channel for Christchurch
Plans are in hand to launch an Internet-based TV channel made in, by and for Christchurch by the end of the year, and its Board is looking for enthusiasts who would like to volunteer to operate behind or in front of the cameras to help make the vision a reality.
The channel – TV Christchurch - aims to make, promote and distribute locally produced, relevant local TV which is fun, entertaining, stimulating, useful and seen by a wide spectrum of residents and visitors. Before long, it will be possible to watch the channel on conventional TV using a set-top box.
What will be on it? “There are loads of ideas on the table,” says Executive Director Keith Lancing, “We really want to reach out to include people such as house-bound retired people and young people who don’t feel part of things, as well as asking ordinary people about things that matter locally.
There’ll be entertainment with shows recorded live at the Regent Centre and elsewhere, entertainment for children and their parents, programmes to promote the town to visitors and a lot more. The TV Christchurch slogan is ‘Putting YOU in the picture’, and we aim to live up to it.”
TV Christchurch is a non-profit distributing social enterprise being set up by a Board of media and community development enthusiasts, together with representatives of Christchurch Community Partnership, Christchurch Chamber of Trade & Commerce, and Christchurch Borough Council’s Management Board has backed the project in principle.
TV Christchurch is looking for volunteer presenters, camera operators, video editors and producers amongst others – skilled people welcome, but training will be given to those who don’t have the skills at present.
