Although the company would very warmly welcome volunteers who already possess some or all of the skills required for each position, training will be provided for those who require it.
On application for a voluntary position, the applicant will have an
info
rmal chat with an appropriate representative of TV Christchurch, which may contain some kind of practical activity, to help us assess any skills development required, and suitability for particular jobs available. We cannot guarantee to provide the applicant with their chosen activity.
Any voluntary activity which may involve contact with children or vulnerable adults will be subject to a CRB check, which may take a few weeks. There is a TV Christchurch handbook containing all relevant company policies for paid staff and unpaid volunteers, which is available on request.
1. Presenters/Reporters
The work involves, in collaboration with the person(s) responsible for the particular project, and the camera operator:
a) Researching a topic, via the Internet, library, target events or groups, and personal knowledge if available.
b) Preparing the filming session:
i) Drafting questions and/or commentary.
ii) Preparing ideas for the filming session: locations, ideas for camera shots, range of activities or perspectives on the issue or event, cutaway camera shots.
iii) Liaison with the camera operator(s) and target group(s) on the date, time, location and approximate length and content of the session.
c) Attending the filming session, conducting interviews, working with the camera operator(s) to get all the material required, recording an introduction or other commentary on site, if required. Recording any additional audio or video material to be included in the item.
d) Ensuring that any appropriate waiver forms, indemnities or consents are signed on site, and returned to the producer with the material.
e) EITHER i) Passing the material to an editor to be prepared for broadcast OR ii) editing the material, and passing to an Executive Director for clearance for broadcasting.
The work involves (in collaboration with the person(s) responsible for the item and the presenter/reporter)
a) Researching a topic, via the Internet, library, target events or groups, and personal knowledge if available.

i. Preparing ideas for the filming session: locations, ideas for camera shots, range of activities or perspectives on the issue or event, cutaway camera shots.
ii. Liaison with the presenter/reporter on the date, time, location and approximate length and content of the session.
iii Collecting and booking out the necessary equipment.
c) Attending the filming session, liaison with the reporter/presenter on the best angles and locations, choosing the right camera settings, testing camera operation (video & audio), working with the presenter/reporter to get all the material required, ensuring the reporter/presenter has recorded any introduction or other commentary on site, if required.
d) Recording any additional audio or video material to be included in the item.
e) EITHER i) Passing the material to an editor to be prepared for broadcast OR ii) editing the material, and passing to an Executive Director for clearance for broadcasting.
We are looking for creative and committed individuals to oversee and co-ordinate the development of the sub-channels within the TV Christchurch channel. The sub-channels currently proposed cover the following areas:
- Music, Arts, Crafts & Entertainment
- Places to see, things to do, pubs, hotels, events & nightlife
- Healthy Living,
Christchurch
Lifestyle
- News, sports, & current affairs
- Local services &

rmation, business
- Evergreen channel (seniors)
- Youth Culture
Items will be included within the main TV Christchurch 24/7 channel, and also kept for a period after the initial broadcast for people to view when they want to.
Responsible to the Executive Directors, the role involves:
a) Drafting and agreeing a strategy, aims, objectives and marketing plan for the sub-channel, including both content ideas and how the channel might work financially (e.g. pay per view, sponsorship, advertising, onward sales, etc – we will help on this)
b) Originating programme ideas – whether this be a series of separate programmes, one-off specials, weekly or monthly series of programmes. Responding to ideas for the channel from others.
c) Commissioning the programmes from a producer (if available) or directly from a presenter & camera operator(s), and arranging for editing of the programme if necessary.
d) Passing the completed programme to an Executive Director for viewing and broadcasting.
e) Attending editorial and/or management meetings from time to time with other Channel Managers and directors.
f) Reviewing performance of the channel in terms of viewing figures, feedback and finance and reporting to the company Board from time to time.
Video editors
The work involves:
a) Receiving a tape, disk or download of a video item.
b) Discussing the aims, focus, style and content of the item with the person responsible for it.
c) Editing the material, and adding any ident, associated sponsorship or embedded advertising content, captions, titles and credits.
d) Having the edited version reviewed by the director, producer or presenter if required.
e) Adapting the material for the purposes required (e.g. in formats suitable for online broadcast, DVD)
f) Preparing a short ‘trailer’ of the item.
g) Passing the completed material on to an Executive Director for final review before uploading for broadcast or sending for DVD production.
h) Editing may be carried out on a computer or at an editing suite.
Producers
The work involves:
a) Receiving commission from a channel manager, commissioning editor or Executive Director.
b) Recruiting presenter/reporter, camera operator(s) and (if necessary) editor to work on the item.
c) Liaison between the target of the item and the personnel above to arrange the filming of the item, providing briefs, and discussing management of the content as required.
d) Briefing the crew on any waivers, indemnities or consents required, and providing the necessary forms.
e) Providing the relevant customer relations rep or director with the necessary contacts for potential income through advertising or sale of DVD’s relating to the item.
f) Supervise the processing of the item through filming, editing, and reviewing before passing to an Executive Director for final review prior to broadcast.

Customer relations representatives
Responsible to the Development Director.
The work involves:
a) Receiving and understanding the offers currently being made to potential customers, and materials and means of promoting them.
b) Contributing ideas on how these offers might be improved or revised or changed, especially having been out ‘in the field’.
c) Receiving and/or researching leads to contacts in relation to the company’s offers.
d) The customers are:
a. Retailers and small businesses interested in advertising or sponsoring events or on the channel by means of video or ‘click on’ static or banner adverts.
b. Small and medium size businesses interested in advertising or sponsorship of events, series, regular items (e.g. news) or sub-channels.
c. Advertising agencies dealing with local promotion of regional and national brands.
d. Companies wishing to make their own promotional video, and use our services to create them.
e. Organisers requiring video coverage of their events on a commission or sale of DVD basis..
f. DVD purchasers of any material being broadcast on TV Christchurch.
g. Other online services who may be interested in TV Christchurch content, on a revenue share basis.
e) Contacting potential customers by letter or

rmation pack delivered to their address. Following up by letter, phone call or visit.
f) Making the company's offer explicitly, fairly and without undue pressure, and seeking one-off, short term or medium term advertising contracts.
g) Completing paperwork in relation to any business transacted, and forwarding it to the Development Director or an Executive Director for processing.
h) Attending occasional meetings to discuss the sales programme.
